Windows 10 or not to Windows 10, that is the question?

With the release of Windows 10 on the 29th of July I have had many people calling me ask my opinion on wether to upgrade not.

The short answer is that inevitably we will all need to upgrade at some point. Windows 10 is just another stepping stone in the path along technology, and eventually Windows Vista and Windows Seven will no longer be supported, forcing us to move to Windows 10 eventually.

I, along with many technicians around the world, have been testing the beta version for many months now, and there are some great new changes that make it a little easier to use then Windows 8. For example, they have bought back the desktop menu, with much relief to many, although it has been redesigned. They have enhanced Internet with the new Microsoft Edge browser replacing the old Internet Explorer, they have launched Cortana removed the charm bar and app corners along with much more.

So when should I upgrade? Since the release of Windows 10, I have been rushed off my feet with people wanting to upgrade and having issues in doing so. There has been a problem with NVidia Graphics compatibility that has made some people’s computer display flaky, others have been experiencing issues with their Outlook not sending email once they have upgraded, and there are many more smaller examples coming out of the woodwork as well.

My suggestion is to wait, don’t be the early bird for this upgrade, because this is the time where Microsoft troubleshoots all the bugs and ticks in the operating system that everyone else who has installed it have found, and reported back to Microsoft. This is also when the computer and parts manufacturers are also working out their compatibility issues with their range of components with Microsoft.

Windows has already begun putting together updates to meet these issues. So rather then being an early adopter and getting into strife wait a few months. After October, let Microsoft and all the over software and hardware manufacturers sort out their compatibility issues and then upgrade. It will save you allot of troubleshooting hassle for problems that you can do very little about. Windows 10 is a free upgrade for 12 months for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users so you have plenty of time to embrace the new look and features.

As always if you have any questions about Windows 10 of have any specific issues you are experiencing, then send me an email Nathan@hometechassist.com.au or give me a call on 1300 682 817. Thanks Nathan.
